Out of Town Guest Information

If you are joining us from out of town, thank you so much for coming!!! 

HOTEL:

We have a block of rooms set aside at the Courtyard Marriott in Woburn, Massachusetts. 

The room hold ends May 16th, and June is a popular month to visit Boston, so please reserve your room before May 16th. 

FRIDAY NIGHT:

We will have a relaxed buffet dinner starting around 5:30 PM on Friday night in one of the function rooms at the Woburn Marriott (700 Unicorn Park Dr Woburn, Massachusetts) for our out of town guests. When you RSVP, please be sure to let us know if you will join us for dinner. 

There are also services at the synagogue at 7:30 PM on Friday night which you are welcome to attend. Dessert will be at the synagogue after services. 

SATURDAY:

The main event of the weekend is the Shabbat morning service itself, beginning at 9:30 AM on Saturday morning at Temple Shalom (475 Winthrop Street) in Medford, Mass. Yael will be leading parts of the service and will be called to the Torah as a Jewish adult. There will be lunch after services on Saturday at the synagogue. 

SUNDAY:

All of our out of town guests are invited to join us for lunch and adventure at Metro Rock (rock climbing and ropes course) from 11 AM - 2 PM at 69 Norman St #9 in Everett, Massachusetts. 

When you RSVP, please let us know if you can join Sunday, and how many in you party will partake in the adventure (climbing/ropes). Grown-ups who wish to just come for lunch and hang out are welcome to do so, please RSVP accordingly.

Casual attire for Sunday. No high heals allowed. Athletic wear is recommended for climbers. Climbers should not wear very short shorts (not too comfy when wearing a harness). Climbers should wear socks and sneakers.

What to Expect at a Bat Mitzvah

Sabbath Services (much of which are in Hebrew) will run from approximately 9:30 AM - 12 PM Saturday.  Starting at around 10:15 AM, Yael will be leading parts of the service. Especially for those not familiar with the services, arriving at 10:15 ish is completely acceptable. If you cannot join us in person, but would like to participate in the services via zoom, a link will be provided to you. Females are welcome, but not required, to wear a kippah. There is a bin of kippot in the lobby for anyone who needs to borrow one. My Bat-Mitzvah Project - Supporting Girls and Women

The Torah portion I am reading at my bat mitzvah is about counting able-bodied men. But, hey!!!!! Women count too !!!! In the Bible, women didn’t have equal opportunities. Even today, women are not always treated equally to men in many situations. For my bat mitzvah project, I will be donating 10% of my bat mitzvah gift income to the below-listed organizations, all of which promote educational opportunities for girls and women, equality for women, and women assuming leadership positions.  The Malala Fund ( https://malala.org/ ) works to secure 12 years of free, safe, quality education for all girls so they can learn and lead without fear. We focus on secondary school, typically grades 7–12, when gender discrimination increasingly affects adolescent girls’ futures.
